A Time for Fervent Prayer

The current economic and political situation of our nation brings to mind the statement a lady made to Benjamin Franklin just after the United States Constitution was signed. The lady approached Mr. Franklin and asked, “Well, Mr. Franklin, do we have a  government?” His Answer, “Yes if you can keep it.”

God gave our democracy to us by virtue of His Grace and the sacrifices of our forefathers; therefore, it is incumbent upon each successive generation of Americans to make the sacrifices necessary to maintain our democracy. God promised in II Chronicles  7:14: If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land.

In spite of this, our generation of the Church has become spiritually complacent and dependent upon government for our everyday subsistence to a degree never before experienced by this Country. As a nation, we have virtually substituted government for God.

Thus, today’s headlines herald our forfeiture of our God given freedoms, and the encroachment of government even further and further into our everyday lives. And, the fault lies not at the door of the politicians, but rather at the door of  Christians in America for failing to continually lift up our Nation in prayer to Almighty God.

Where Are Our Prayers for Our Nation?

Are we as Christians so spiritually dull and self centered that we have not seen the ever increasing godlessness and ever increasing government control that pervades all areas of our society? We must ask ourselves the question: How much time have I spent praying for  “finances and things for myself” versus praying for “the Restoration of Righteousness in America?”

God is still on the Throne, and there is absolutely no man, political party or mass movement by man that can ever alter, remove or circumvent God or His Ways in any manner whatsoever. America’s  destiny lies not in our political / economic machinations, but rather in the Christians in America reaching out to God in repentance for our sins and imploring Him to heal our land (II Chronicles 7:14). His Ways  have not changed nor will they ever change. Therefore, if righteousness does not prevail in our land, it will be our fault as the Body of Christ.  Do we want history to record that our generation of Christians in America  ignored God and failed to plead to Him to heal our land? That is not heritage; rather, it is the abject failure of The Church

How Should We Pray?

God tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-8 (NIV) just how to pray for our nation: I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and Thanksgiving be made for kings and all those in authority, (Whether we agree with the . . . kings and all those in authority . . . or not is immaterial, for when this Scripture was written cruel and spiritually ignorant despots ruled the entire world.) that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men that testimony given in its proper time. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle-I am telling the truth, I am not lying-and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. (emphasis added)

The above clearly instructs Christians to pray for those in authority (regardless of whether we agree with them or not): and, if we will so pray, He will hear our prayer and heal our land. I shudder to think what our children’s world will be like if we as parents and grandparents fail to repent for our sins, pray for those in authority and for righteousness to prevail in our land. Just  how prayer causes healing is not yet ours to know; however, we do know that it is the truth for it is God’s Word. Donna and I are asking that each of you join us in our daily prayer for our nation.

There is no room whatsoever here for political answers or resolutions because politics is not the issue. Rather, the sole issue before us remains: Is our sleeping Church more interested in form and business as usual than it is in bringing our nation into obedience to God’s Word? If we will return to God, He will hear our prayer and heal our land. here are no alternatives or substitutes,  He Is The One And Only Answer. We must fervently seek Him as we never before have, or, prepare ourselves and our children to suffer the quite soon extremely adverse consequences.

Let us “go and find God” as we never before have, and touch His Face with prayers for those in authority as set forth in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Then, we will “keep” the Blessings that Mr. Franklin and millions of others have given their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to preserve, protect and defend on our behalf. Our children will then call us “Blessed,” and not curse us. The choice is ours, What is your answer? Come on Church, let us rise up as the One True Church and pray in earnest for The United States of America as we never before have? Righteousness versus unrighteousness is the root issue we face, all else is fluff.
